UPDATE: Autism and Your Parish, Parts 2 and 3

Yes! I have mastered the YouTube and such confounding things as exporting and uploading. Thanks, tech pro Hubs, for the help.

In my last post, I pulled the reveal curtain on Part One. Today is…

WHOOSH!

Part Two: The Functions of Autistic Behaviors

This one is my shortest video at 6 minutes and change, and we discuss why certain behaviors happen, and what they do for the person who uses them. (Featuring a cameo by my nine-year-old, Nora, and a magical disappearing and reappearing icon. 5 points to the person in your group who spots it first) 😉

And here’s the free printable workbook that goes with it:

Finally, WHOOSH!

Part Three: Meltdowns

This one was heavy on my heart the day I filmed it, so it’s probably my most candid and clocks in under 9 minutes.

And the workbook for Part Three:

Autism workshop book pt3

I hope that this series is useful in your parish, since I find that most people want to be thoughtful and helpful but don’t know how.

Let me know what you think!

You did a wonderful job on these videos. Your explanation is spot on. I am a Special Education Advocate. My specialty is autism, I work with kidos in the public school system on IEP’s or 504s and autistic teens that are getting ready to transition. I also have a 18 yr old autistic son. I have posted your videos to a ton of people today. They are a great tool, not only for the Parish but just in general. Keep up the good work. Thank you for being a ally to the autism community.
